The Pattern Challenge by Mel is an illustration challenge hosted on Instagram by Australian artist and illustrator, Melanie Johnson. She has hosted this challenge a couple of times per year for many years now, even launching a limited edition Pattern Paper featuring a selection of the illustrators and their patterns from the challenge.
The challenge is a really great way to create a cohesive, collection of work within the same color palette or just go wild and use the opportunity to try something completely new or different. With this particular set of prompts I decided to do a bit of both. I utilized the same color palette for most of my illustrations and added new colors when it felt right or I felt the illustration needed a pop of blue or mustard. Mustard is one of my favorite colors and I use it quite often in my personal illustration work.
